About Resilience Reclaimed

Welcome to Resilience Reclaimed, a Swedish consultancy where personalised attention and commitment meet expertise. Founded and operated by Erik Rottier, a professional with over two decades of experience in the fields of Resilience, Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Response.

Resilience Reclaimed is dedicated to bringing tailor-made solutions that help you and your organisation prepare for adversity and overcome challenges. Its mission is simple: to empower your organisation to not just survive, but thrive in a changing and challenging context.

Professional Background

The Building Blocks

My career started in 1996 with Médecins Sans Frontières. I began in on-the-ground technical positions in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and logistics. From there I progressed to coordination positions working in preparedness, emergency response and recovery contexts. In 2008 I moved to CARE where I worked at strategic level in risk reduction and resilience. This included a strong component of capacity building and integrating risk reduction in organisational systems and processes.

Since 2012 I have operated as independent consultant under the name ResilientWASH. I collaborated with major organisations like The Netherlands and Swedish Red Cross, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and UNICEF. The focus of this work was around the resilience of systems, organisations, and communities in developing countries. Over the years I have developed many proprietary models, tools and approaches on resilience and how working with resilience relates to other sectors.

Evolving Demands

Recent global and regional dynamics have generated a growing need to integrate resilience in organisations in the West. Recognising this potential, I decided to reorient toward this space and launch Resilience Reclaimed.

Because of my experience and background I am well positioned to bring my expertise to organisations closer to home. In support of this, I have a formal accreditation in Business Continuity; a recognised and standardised approach (covered by ISO 22301:2019) that builds Organisational Resilience.

Your Partner in Resilience

My path has taken me from on-the-ground and higher-level technical, to capacity building, coordination, and strategic positions. I have worked in several disciplines, and I have written two books that combine disciplines. My inquisitiveness, and ability to connect disciplines, creativity, out-of-the box thinking and capacity to connect with people, give me the possibility to navigate complex challenges and bring constructive solutions where they are required. I am confident that my background equips me with fresh perspectives and innovative approaches that can be tailored to suit the specific needs of clients in developed countries.

Personal Background

After ten years working overseas and six years based in The Netherlands with frequent travel overseas, our family looked to create roots in a rural environment, work on our own resilience, and live a more healthy and grounded life.

We moved to a homestead in rural Sweden 180km west of Stockholm, in Bergslagen. An area where I have family ties. Resilience is more to us than a ‘discipline’ or field of study. It informs an important part of how we live our life. Since 2012 we have improved our homestead through rehabilitation and construction, and we produce a significant part of our food ourselves. Since 2020 we work together with another family to increase food production and strengthen our local network.

We believe that the future is local and personal. One of our longer-term goals is to contribute with initiatives that will raise the local level of resilience, sustainability, and self-sufficiency.
